Approved by decree at the very end of 2022, the list of 85 classified growths of the right bank of Bordeaux can still be challenged in court for the next two months; levelling three months after the decision of the national committee of AOC wines
Signed by the Ministers of Economy and Agriculture, the decree approving the 2022 classification of Saint-Émilion wines was published on December 22 in the Official Journal. It validates the classification of 85 châteaux adopted on September 8 by the national committee of AOP wines of the National Institute of Origin and Quality (INAO), and, contrary to what we have heard in the Bordeaux vineyards, this publication three months after the decree has no consequence on its validity, says the INAO.
The only uncertainty is whether or not there will be legal attacks against this 2022 ranking. Potential dissatisfied believers may file an action for annulment within two months of publication in the OJ. While the 2012 edition has had many judicial twists and turns (completed at the criminal level, not at the administrative level), the last ten-year revision has already undergone administrative procedures concerning its selection procedures.
While the historical opponents of the 2006 and 2012 rankings remain on the lookout and prestigious properties are now missing (Ausone, Cheval Blanc...), the holders of the classification of the right bank of Bordeaux defend a collective tool of emulation (qualitatively, environmentally...).
