Venetsanos Winey from the volcanic island of Santorini presents at Greek Wine Day 2025 the dessert wine, Vinsanto 2016 & 2017 ageing 4 years in oak barrel.

From the sun-drenched vineyards near Akrotiri, this exquisite naturally sweet wine is crafted from overripe white grapes, predominantly Assyrtiko (70%) and Aidani, carefully hand-harvested at peak maturity. The grapes are sun-dried for 7 to 15 days, concentrating their sugars and flavors before being gently destemmed and pressed.

The luscious must then undergoes a slow fermentation lasting more than two months in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperatures, preserving the purity and aromatic complexity of the fruit. Once fermentation is complete, the wine is transferred to oak barrels for a minimum of four years of maturation, where it develops depth, harmony, and exceptional character.

With unlimited aging potential, this wine continues to evolve gracefully over time.

Tasting Notes

A honeyed, velvety palate unfolds with rich notes of fig, raisin, caramel, and vanilla. The bouquet reveals dried apricot, honey, roasted nuts, bitter chocolate, and subtle hints of candied orange peel. The finish is long and refined, balancing sweetness with a vibrant, razor-sharp acidity that leaves a lasting impression.

Food Pairing

This versatile dessert wine pairs beautifully with dark chocolate, fruit tarts, and desserts featuring candied fruits or nuts. It also creates an intriguing contrast when served alongside foie gras or pungent, mature cheeses.
