Article by Haris Papandreou, Greek Wine Day.
At the end of a recent meeting with Carlotta Gori, Director of the Consorzio del Chianti Classico, while discussing Vin Santo, she mentioned that it would be important for an upcoming event to feature a joint tasting table presenting both the Vin Santo of Chianti and the Vinsanto of Santorini.

I proposed that this take place during Greek Wine Day 2025, which will be held in Florence on November 1st.

After all, Florence is not only the city where, in 1439, Santorini wine was first mentioned during the Council between Catholics and Orthodox Christians, but also the birthplace of Greek Wine Day itself years ago. This fact holds special significance, as it reflects the deep shared culture that has long connected Italy and Greece through wine — a relationship that dates back to antiquity.

The wines to be presented by the Chianti Classico producers are:

  • Cantalici – Vin Santo del Chianti Classico 2013
  • Caparsa – Vin Santo del Chianti Classico di Caparsa 2001
  • Castello di Volpaia – Vin Santo del Chianti Classico Volpaia 2019
  • Fèlsina – Vin Santo del Chianti Classico Fèlsina 2018
  • Fietri – Vin Santo del Chianti Classico + di Una Luna 2015 Occhio di Pernice
  • Fontodi – Vin Santo del Chianti Classico Fontodi 2014
  • Giacomo Grassi – Vin Santo del Chianti Classico Opre 2011
  • La Vigna di San Martino ad Argiano – Vin Santo del Chianti Classico La Vigna di San Martino ad Argiano 2018
  • Pieve di Campoli – Vin Santo del Chianti Classico Cortine 2018
  • Ricasoli – Vin Santo del Chianti Classico Castello di Brolio 2015
