Perched atop the cliffs of Megalochori, Venetsanos Winery offers a unique blend of historical significance, architectural ingenuity, and breathtaking views of Santorini’s caldera. Established in 1947 by the Venetsanos family, it holds the distinction of being the island’s first industrial winery, ingeniously designed to utilize gravity for wine production—a necessity during a time when electricity was scarce

A Legacy Rooted in Innovation

The winery’s construction into the cliffside was a strategic choice, allowing for a gravity-fed winemaking process that minimized energy use. This design not only addressed the limited access to power but also set a precedent for sustainable practices in winemaking . Today, visitors can explore the original machinery and tools preserved in the winery’s museum, offering a glimpse into the pioneering methods of mid-20th-century wine production.

Vineyards and Varietals
